I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest helper or heaviest burden. I will push you onward or drag you down to failure. I am completely at your command.
Half of the things you do you might as well turn over to me and I will do them - quickly and correctly.
I am easily managed - you must be firm with me. Show me exactly how you want something done and after a few lessons, I will do it automatically.
I am the servant of great people, and alas, of all failures as well. Those who are great, I have made great. Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine though I work with the precision of a machine plus the intelligence of a person.
You may run me for profit or run me for ruin - it makes no difference to me.
Take me, train me, be firm with me, and I will place the world at your feet.
Be easy with me and I will destroy you.
Who am I? I am Habit.
Think about what you just read. Pretty interesting huh?
Did you know who it was the whole time, or was it a surprise to you at the end?
The first time I read this poem I realized that my habits were working against me. So I took immediate action and applied what I read. Now I am training myself and my habits to work for me.
Habits and character are closely related. So if you want to improve your character, get control of your habits and make them work for you.
The thoughts for today are focused on Habits.
Enjoy!
Nothing is stronger than habit.
Ovid (43 BC - 17 AD), Ars Amatoria
Good habits result from resisting temptation.
Ancient Proverb
How use doth breed a habit in a man!
William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616), "The Two Gentlemen of Verona", Act 5 scene 4
Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time.
Mark Twain (1835 - 1910)
My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.
Errol Flynn (1909 - 1959)
Curious things, habits. People themselves never knew they had them.
Agatha Christie (1890 - 1976)
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act but a habit.
Aristotle
Are your habits working for you or against you? How can you take control of them and make them work for you?
Take inventory of your habits, then take action to correct the ones that are working against you.
Don't forget that you also become who you surround yourself with and who you spend the most time with. So if the people that you are spending most of your time with have bad habits, theres a good chance that those bad habits will rub off on you. So surround yourself with positive and influential people so that their good habits rub off on you.
Make it a great day!
You're the Best!
